Commendations have continued to pour in for the choice of Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, a professor of microbiology, as the running-mate to Siminailayi Fubara, the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 governorship election.
Odu, who hails from Egi in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, was a commissioner for education in Rivers State under the Governor Peter Odili administration between 2003 and 2007. She was at one time the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health.
At the point of her nomination, she was a professor of microbiology at PAMO University of Medical Sciences.
Her nomination has been hailed by people across political divides as not only an informed choice but a positive step of integrating women and minorities in government.
Former Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mrs. Ibim Seminatari, said, “She (Odu) indeed has always been in the First Eleven, I have to admit.”
Samuel Iyoyo, a former Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Rivers State, described Odu as, “A great woman, hardworking, humble, focused and highly principles; a nice choice for Rivers people.”
Kate Membere said the deputy governorship candidate is “a very good product; easy to manage,” while Marshal said the choice of Odu was a “strategic decision.”
Chibueze Ojukwu said with the choice of the woman of the calibre of Odu shows that “Rivers State is getting better,” while Victor David said, “She’s going to make a good deputy governor.”
If the PDP ticket triumphs in the general election, Odu will become the second woman to be elected deputy governor of Rivers State.
