The South South Chiefs, Elders and Opinion Leaders Association of Nigeria, a pressure group focused on engendering a poverty-free Niger Delta, will on December 19, 2019, roll out the carpets to beat drums in honour of charitable organizations and individuals who are immensely making effort to empower citizens to overcome poverty in the region.
A release by the chairman of the high-power body, High Chief (Dr.) Omubo A. Harry, made available to National Point Newspaper stated that awardees include O.B. Lulu Briggs Foundation, Omega Power Ministry Ministries, Belema Oil Producing Ltd, and Mind Development Initiative, (MD).
Chief Harry said the awards are a way of encouraging philanthropy for development and pointing a way out of the woods for the much endowed but marginalized Niger Delta.
The event which will be chaired by the pioneer governor of old Rivers State and Amayanabo Twon Brass, HRM King Alfred Diete-Spiff, will hold at 12 noon at the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Main Hall, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt and will attract dignitaries of the South South origin from all-over the country as well as some in the Diaspora.
Royal Father of the Day will be His Majesty, Obong (Dr.) Essien U. Ekidem, the Ntisong Ibibio111. Special Adviser to the president on Niger Delta Affairs and coordinator Amnesty Programme, Prof. Charles Dokubo has been penciled down as special guest of honour.
Other notable personalities expected at the event as special guests include, Rt. Hon Ikuinyi Awaji, speaker Rivers State House of Assembly, Alabo Hon. Bekinbo Soberekon, other royal fathers, HRH Chief Hon (Dr.) Diamond Tobin West, president Port Harcourt Club and the Amayanabo of Okpo in Kalabari Kingdom, HRH Eze Okey Okah, HRH Mene (Dr.) Taalor Tornwe VI, among others.
