The Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has guaranteed the Delta State Government of not being cheated in the distribution of revenue through improved statistical methods.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Elias Mbam, gave the assurance at a sensitization and advocacy tour on data gathering of the state in Asaba.
Mr Mbam stressed the need for states to grow their economies away from oil, saying that the world was gradually moving from oil-driven economy to other sectors.
The commission chairman who was represented by a Federal Commissioner in the Commission, Alhaji Kabir Muhammad, said that RMAFC had developed scientific methods to plug loopholes for the transparent sharing of revenue among all federating units based on certain indices.
‘’Some states or local governments have their revenues increased by up to 600 per cent without corresponding evidence of economic activity, but we want to be fair to everybody and in doing so; we embarked on this sensitization tour.
‘’Let me assure the state government that we will never allow Delta to be cheated. We enjoy good understanding and therefore, there is nothing that will be too much for RMAFC to assist the state.
‘’We will ensure that Delta State gets what it is due. There are instances where a particular state will be short-changed in revenue allocation, only to be discovered after investigation and this is why we are tracking everybody including the Office of the Accountant-General,’’ Mbam said.
