Girls at an anti-gender based violence enlightenment campaign
In commemoration of the 2021 International Day for the Girl Child, a traditional ruler from Ogoni land has called for onward review of digital technological implements on ground for the development of girls in our society.
Mene Ambassador Magnus Edooh, paramount ruler, Dee Eewa village in Kwawa community said in a press statement issued by his media team on his behalf, that girls as future leaders, need to be integrated into the digital world as the current world is a digital generation.
“Girls are leaders, let’s implement this step in our daily business, mostly at the community level, especially as girls are change makers and home builders”.
He called for action on gender based challenges which girl children face on daily basis from both parents, friends, relations and from peers, such as early marriage, gender inequality, rape, sexual abuse, etc. as he harped on quality education for girls.
“We need to educate our girl child; it is a right that must be given to them. Giving opportunity to a girl child is an investment. Community leaders should rise up to the occasion and support the girl child in their respective communities to balance equality in the life circle.
‘No society can grow optimally without the inputs of women, therefore, let’s trains our girl child to be great,” the gender equality and education advocate stated.
“We are in the digital era, like this year’s theme, ‘Digital Generation, our Generation’, technology based training should be a major component in training the girl child,” he added.
Mene Edooh also used the opportunity of the International Day of the Girl Child to advice female children to be diligent, obedient, focused on their studies and to also stay away from social vices that can destroy their youthful age such as involvement in cultism, prostitution and exam malpractice.
Admonishing them to honour God, he stated, “God created us all in his image, therefore, always read his words on daily basis for direction”.
The traditional ruler said he is looking forward to seeing young women in decision making positions.
“I am looking forward to see our girls participating in policy making processes in their communities, becoming youth leaders, students’ union presidents”.
He called on men to protect girls from all forms of violence and inhibitions.
“We must encourage our men to protect our girl children from all forms of harassments and cultural intimidation which can hinder their growth. Train your girl child today”.
