And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”- Ephesians 5:18
What is the fresh or the concept of new anointing from the Holy Spirit?
The Scriptures have so much to say about the anointing and the different dimensions of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes Scripture refers to other activities of the Spirit as the baptism of the Spirit, being sealed by the Spirit, living in the Spirit, being filled with the Spirit and walking in the Spirit. Each one of these activities is unique. Therefore, it is not clear if each activity can be referred to as an anointing of the Spirit since the Scripture never refers to them as an anointing.
THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLYSPIRIT
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 describes the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
The baptism of the Spirit occurs at the moment of saving faith, that is, when a person becomes a believer in Christ, has his or her sins forgiven, and is headed for heaven.
“For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit”- 1 Corinthians 12:13-14.
THE SEALING OF THE HOLYSPIRIT
The sealing of the Spirit also occurs at the moment of saving faith and it is God’s pledge or promise that every Christian will go to heaven (2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30; 2 Timothy 2:19).
“. . . having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory “- Ephesians 1:13-14.
THE INDWELLING OF THE SPIRIT
At the moment of salvation the Holy Spirit seals every believer and begins to live within every believer (Romans 8:9-11; Galatians 5:25). Romans 8:9-11 teaches that the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer.
“However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you”- Romans 8:9-11.
We are also told that the indwelling Spirit gives life to each believer. Notice that we are told if the Spirit is not in a person, he is not a believer or Christian. Romans 8:13-14 says that the proof a person is led by the Spirit is that he is having victory over sin.
1 Corinthians 3:16 and 6:19 declare that a believer is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Since 1 John is written to believers (1 John 1:1-3), it becomes obvious that 1 John 2:20, 27 is declaring every believer anointed by the Spirit. He is living within. That is, the Holy Spirit lives or dwells within! In summary, every believer is miraculously and permanently indwelt or anointed by the Holy Spirit. If a person is not indwelt by the Spirit, then that person is not a believer.
WALKING IN THE SPIRIT
Since a person is:
1. Placed into the body of Christ by spiritual immersion (baptism of the Spirit.
2. Sealed by the Spirit.
3. Begins to live by the Spirit and
4. The Spirit starts living or dwelling within every believer at the moment of salvation. Is there a need for something more? The answer is yes! Every believer needs to be repeatedly filled with or controlled by the Spirit moment-by-moment. The act of being filled with the Spirit moment-by-moment is called walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-23).
It is God’s will for every believer to be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:17-18 reveals that it is God’s will that every believer is filled with the Spirit.
“So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:17-18).
Since this is a command, it reveals that this does not occur automatically in the life of a believer. A believer is filled when he or she has repented of their sins, confessed their sins, asked the Spirit to take control of their lives and spend time in the Word of God.
This dynamic fresh infilling on regular basis is what is known as fresh anointing.
PERIPATEO CODE
Believers are also commanded to walk in the Spirit in Galatians 5:16-23. The Greek word for “walk” is peripateo. This is also a command for every believer. Walking in the Spirit is the repeated act of being filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit tells us in verses 17-21 that if we are walking in the Spirit, we will not be constantly sinning. We will have victory over sin!
This means that when a believer sins, the believer must repent and confess his or her sins and ask the Spirit to take control again. As a believer faithfully walks in the Spirit, he/she will experience the blessing promised in verses 22-23. It is important to note that the evidence cited here of walking in the Spirit or constantly being filled is not just speaking in tongues or performing miracles. Verses 22-23 describe what will happen,
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires”- Galatians 5:22-24.
The master key to continuous fresh flow of the HOLY SPIRIT is to genuinely walk in the spirit every day.
Receive the grace to walk in the spirit all the days of your life.
The Dynamics Of Fresh Anointing
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.”- Acts 4:13
All you need in life can be found in God’s mighty presence!
Though God’s Word remains constant and sure, His Spirit is always moving. Moving from unrighteousness to yielding to righteousness is a lifelong challenge.
We are told in Psalm 91 what happens to those who learn to dwell in the, “secret place of the Most High.” Not only can we, “abide under the shadow of the Almighty,” but He will be our refuge and fortress as He delivers us from the enemy’s snares and pestilence. We won’t have to be afraid of terrors, for “there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”
How do we get into that secret place of the Most High where we can find a precious anointing of blessing, healing, protection, favor, and so much more? The psalmist points to the necessity of dwelling daily in the presence of the Lord, literally abiding in Him, experiencing wave after wave of His fresh anointing! But how do we prepare?
We are moving into a fresh new season of anointing, and in preparation, God has impressed upon my heart again and again that it is time for believers to prepare for the coming wave of outpouring.
How about you? In today’s uncertain times, do you need His favor and protection against the storms of life?
Are you ready to move into God’s fresh anointing?
All you need in life can be found in God’s mighty presence!
If you need a miracle (and desire a fresh anointing for a life of miracles), move into His presence and discover what our Lord has in store for you.
It does not matter who you are or what experience you’ve had in the past. Sometimes the greatest hindrance to what God wants to do in your life today is relying on what God did yesterday.
Just as the children of Israel were instructed to gather fresh manna every day except on the Sabbath (Exodus .16)
We are told:
“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert’- Isaiah 43:18-19.
Jesus Himself taught His disciples to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” – Matthew 6:11
He then pointed to the necessity of an eternal, personal relationship with Him:
“I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”- John 6:48-51
Though God’s Word remains constant and sure, His Spirit is always moving; He is not doing the same thing today that He did yesterday. You must never be so caught up in past experiences with the Lord that you miss what He is saying and doing right now.
Just as in the times of old when the gathering of fresh manna was required daily, a new anointing requires fresh oil every day!
Jesus said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” – Matthew 4:4
Notice that the Word of God says “proceeds,” which is present tense.
We are going to explore the seven dynamics of fresh anointing in this chapter.
1. The Dynamics Of Fresh Encounter
The fresh anointing requires fresh encounter.
“In the year that King Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. 6:4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
Then said I, Woe is me for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
“Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”- Isaiah 6:1-8
Many wonderful and well-meaning saints are empty today because they are hanging on to what God spoke to them in the past. How He moved and guided yesterday was perfect and right for then, but God is the God of the present, right now. He is speaking today, and it is up to you to listen to His voice.
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness “- Lamentations 3:22-23.
There is simply no other way to live now, have power now, and operate in God’s anointing now than to live by the Word that proceeds out of His mouth now.
Keep in mind, throughout the following paragraphs, I will use the term “daily” about the Holy Spirit’s anointing. More accurately, these guidelines should be something that takes place throughout each day!
2. The Dynamics Of Yielding To The Holy Spirit
Prepare for a fresh anointing by yielding to the Holy Spirit daily!
To move into a fresh anointing, we must spend intimate time in His presence every day. To do this, we must begin each day by yielding to the Holy Spirit.
We are told,“Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God” – Romans 6:13
This is the tough part!
Moving from unrighteousness to yielding to righteousness is a lifelong challenge. Just because you receive Jesus Christ as Savior and the Holy Spirit’s in filling, you are not insulated from spiritual “pruning” and discipline.
In fact, most mountaintop experiences are followed by wilderness times. It was certainly that way with the Savior: “Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil” – Luke 4:1-2
I believe the wilderness era teaches authority. When we go through trials, we can only be successful by yielding to the Holy Spirit during both good and difficult times.
Yielding continually not only opens us to fresh waves of anointing but also helps us mature in the Lord.
All of us start out as spiritual babies. We want everything right now. We demand answers to our smallest problems. We whine when we don’t get our way. Yet when we yield to the Holy Spirit, we gain a seasoned ability to be led by the Holy Spirit. We learn God’s timing; it is a step-by-step process of dying to our own desires and surrendering to the Father’s.
It begins with an ever-growing hunger and thirst for Him. The fresh
