Cult War: EDOCSO Frowns At Incessant Killings In Edo

In response to the continuous killings among men and youths in Benin city, members of the Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO), recently embarked on a peaceful rally against cultism, which has led to the death of over 50 persons in the cult rivalry between Aiye and Eiye confraternities for some months now in the state.
The peaceful protest organized by the coalition in Benin was put together to inform, sensitize and enlighten the general public especially, the youths on the demerits and dangers associated with cultism.
The civil society members who walked through the popular King Square and other adjourning streets in Benin metropolis, carried placards with inscriptions calling for an end to cultism.
Some of the placards read: ‘Let’s stop killing ourselves’ ‘We are one’ ‘Stop the WAR of colour’ ‘Stop the confra killings’, ‘This colour madness must stop.’
The peace walk, which hindered vehicular movement for some hours at the King Square and nearby major streets had anti-cultism music blaring through loud speakers.
Addressing the coalition members before their departure, former leader of EDOCSO, Lefist Agho Omobude said the peaceful awareness campaign is important as a result of the frequent killing of youths among rival cult groups in Benin City.
Comrade Agho expressed disappointment over the continuous hacking of the youths, who he said are supposed to be an asset for the development of the state and Nigeria, if their skills and potentials are properly harnessed in the area of good governance.
He called for an end to the blood that had been flowing in Benin City and called for a proper solution to the constant killing.
Interim Technical Executive Council (TEC) chairman of EDOCSO, Comrade Austin Enabulele, said the rally became imperative due to the incessant cult related killings in the state, Benin City in particular.
He lamented that, cultism does no good to anyone or society, but rather, reduces the population of any society where it is rife due to the killings.
Comrade Enabulele called on those involved in cultism and are ready to denounce it but do not know how to go about it to approach EDOCSO, assuring that such denouncement would be made without endangering the affected person(s) life.
“Cultism does not do us any good, it rather reduces our population due to the killings by rival groups. This is why we came out today to call on our young ones to stop cultism. Stop the killings; we are brothers, we are not enemies so stop killing yourselves. Stop this colour war.
“Anyone who is already into cultism and is ready to denounce it, should come to us. We will help such person and such denouncement would be made without any danger. We are here to help as many that want to take exit from cultism,” he announced.
