The Bayelsa State’s eight local government chairmen and their vice chairmen, Monday April 15, received their certificates of return after their recent elections.
The Bayelsa State local government election was conducted on April 6, 2024 with the candidates of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, winning all the seats.
The PDP also clinched all the councillorship positions in the state’s 105 wards.
The names of the incoming local government chairmen are, Bulodisiye Ndiwari, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Febo Lucky, Brass Local Government Area, and Golden Jeremiah, Ogbia Local Government Area. Others are, David Alagoa (the immediate past commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources), Nembe Local Government Area; Target Segibo, Southern Ijaw LGA, Lelei Tariye, Kolokuma/ Opokuma LGA, Onniye Isaac, Ekeremor LGA and Alice Allen-Tangi, Sagbama Local Government Area.
Issuing the certificate of returns to the chairmen and vice-chairmen at the NUJ Press Center, Yenagoa, Peter Singabele, chairman of the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) thanked them for coming out victorious.
He said the ceremony was a brief one adding, that the same ceremony will also take place in the local governments on Tuesday for the 105 councillors.
He said, “On behalf of BYSIEC, I heartily welcome all of you to this solemn ceremony. Similar ceremony will be performed in the eight local governments from tomorrow for the councillors who were elected.
“This is a brief ceremony but very important. This is the last step on the part of BYSIEC in the 2024 elections. When you are eventually sworn in, you can now operate as a duly elected local government chairman and that is the third tier of the government”.
Speaking on behalf of the new local government chairmen, Bulodisiye Ndiwari of Yenagoa Local Government Area thanked the state governor, Douye Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as well as their political party, for the opportunity given to them to become local government chairmen. He promised that they would ensure better governance at the grassroots.
He said, “I appreciate the governor and his deputy, also the party for giving us this platform to become chairmen and vice-chairmen of the various local government areas.
“We also thank our teeming supporters for all the supports and Bayelsans. We promise to do our best and serve you faithfully and, we promise that governance at the grassroots will get better”.
