The Edo north traditional rulers has confirmed that the state deputy governor, Comrade Philip shaibu has told them about his intention to contest for the Edo state governorship race in 2024.
The shocking statement was made by the Olokpe of Okpe, HRH Oba Idogu III and HRH Alh. D.Y.E Kanoba, the Egiegbai of Ekperi on behalf of the royal fathers in Edo north district. The traditional rulers made the pronouncement at the palace of the ogieneni of Uzairue kingdom, HRH kadiri omogbai.
It was gathered that the Edo north traditional rulers met at the instance of the traditional rulers in Edo central district known in the local parlance as Esan who had commenced diplomatic shuttle to drum up support for Esan extraction to produce the next governor of the state by next year visited their Edo north counterpart.
The Edo central traditional rulers led onogie of uromi , HRM Anslem Aidonogie, has informed the traditional rulers the visit was to seek their support in supporting a governor of Esan extraction.
But the Edo north traditional rulers denied the request of supporting their district on the basis that their son, comrade Shaibu was also interested in the race.
The olokpe of okpe and the egiegba of Ekperi while responding on behalf of the traditional rulers from Edo North thank their colleagues from Edo Central but informed them that their son Comrade Philip Shaibu who is currently the Deputy Governor already informed them that he is interested in joining the governorship race slated for next year.

The Edo central traditional rulers had in their diplomatic shuttle to have the senatorial district to produce the next governor of the state have also visited the Oba of Benin and other stakeholders in the state.
Since the current dispensation 1999, Edo Central had only occupied the Osadebe Avenue for 18 months and Edo north eight years while Edo South would have taken 16 years by the end of governor Godwin Obaseki’s tenure.
