National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure has vowed to win Edo State for the Labour Party (LP) in the coming 2024 gubernatorial elections where he has set up a reconciliation committee to settle aggrieved members of the party.
The LP national chairman who was speaking with journalists in Benin City, Edo State capital, stated that he was embarking on a week-long sensitization tour of the state to ensure that the party triumphs in the 2024 gubernatorial election.
Abure charged the state leadership of the party to open its doors to accommodate new entrants and cooperate with all other leaders and stakeholders to ensure a strong united and formidable party that will be able to win the governorship election.
Said he: “I started from my ward and unit in Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state and I am here at the state level to appreciate the State Working Committee (SWC) for their support, hard work and resilience in the 2023 general elections, which saw the Labour Party scoring 75 percent in the presidential election, and in so doing, deprived all other political parties from getting 25 percent in the election”.
He urged the state ;leadership to build on the foundation laid for more success.
“I want to appeal to the State Executive Council (SEC) of our great party to build on this foundation and maintain the tempo in order to be able to participate effectively with the view to winning the governorship election in Edo State.”
Abure cautioned the leadership replace unit executives across the state that are either not in existence or dormant. He charged the local government chairmen as well as the ward chairmen to appraise such unit executives and substitute them within the next two week.
He also mandated them to report back to the leadership on July 18, 2023.
The national chairman harped on the need for the State Executive Committee to open their doors to accommodate new entrants as he emphasized that the executives alone won’t be able to win elections but need the support from all members.
“I urge the SEC members to be open minded and accept those who are joining the party across all states. I charge the SEC members to cooperate with leaders of the party who are not necessarily the executives of the party, but all those leaders who have contributed in one way or the other in enhancing the growth and development of the party. There must be cooperation between leaders and the executives.
“I also appeal to SEC members to further agree to embark on an aggressive members drive across the state in order to strengthen the party and make it the party to beat in the Edo 2024 gubernatorial election,” Abure appealed.
He said the Labour Party was reaching out to all who contributed to its electoral success and appealed for their continued support..
“Today, I already scheduled to meet all the leaders and support leaders of the party across the state as well as various support groups built around the presidential candidate as well as members of the former Presidential Campaign Council. It is the intention of the national secretariat of our great party to really appreciate their efforts, support for the party and also the great work they have done so far.
“I want to appeal to them to continue to keep faith with Labour Party, work for the growth of the party, and assist to strengthen the party in view of the 2024 governorship election in the state,” he said.
