Dr. Azemhe Azena, an aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2024 governorship election in Edo state, has advised the electorate not to vote for “foreign leaders” in the election.
Azena noted that diasporan candidates and leaders are not exposed to the challenges confronting the masses but only want to their take benefits.
The Labour Party hopeful gave the warning at the Azemhe Project Mega Summit with the theme, “Setting An Agenda for A Better Edo State,” which took place in Ekpoma, the Edo Central Senatorial District.
“Edo people should not accept foreign leaders. Foreign leaders are those people who don’t live with us here in the state. They are those who don’t have their families here in Edo state.
“They are those who don’t have their investments here. They are those who don’t make use of our roads, hospitals, and schools. We should not accept them. Choose among us aspirants and don’t accept foreign candidates,” he said.
The Senior Pastor at Omega Fire Ministries, Southern Region 2. Benin City, who said he is passionate about delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state, however, urged the electorate to jettison zoning arrangement that is being clamouring for by aspirants in a section of the state.
He urged the people of the state as well as political parties faithful to look out for visionary and creative candidates that have what it takes to tackle the socioeconomic challenges confronting them and the state.
According to him, let us try and have a visionary and creative leader with a conscience. A leader that has what it takes to pilot the affairs of Edo state.
“In looking for such a leader, I, Dr Azemhe Azena stand out to be one. That is why I am saying to Edo people, please give me the opportunity to serve you, and to make Edo state a better place for all.
On the call for the zoning of the governorship, Dr. Azembe said, “Zoning arrangement will not profit Edo people. The governorship zoning is a turn of Edo State, not the turn of any senatorial district. I strongly believe in Edo agenda because without Benin there can never be Edo State, without Esan there can never be Edo State, so also without Edo North (Afenmai) there can never be Edo State.
“There are friends who are better than brothers. Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was not from Esan, I think his government benefited the Esan people.
“Today, if someone like Comrade Oshiomhole becomes the governor, I believe the Esan people will still benefit from such person. And I believe strongly that such person is me. If I become the governor of Edo State, the Esan, Benin, Afenmai and other tribes in the state will benefit from me,” he added.
He explained that the Mega Summit in Edo Central senatorial district afforded him the opportunity to tell the people in the locality on what they intend to benefits if given the mandate to govern the state.
The televangelist, who said the same mega summit was held in Edo South senatorial district, disclosed that the next summit will be held in Edo North senatorial district.
