It was a solemn mood in Buguma, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, as relatives and friends came together to pay their last respects to Afonya Peterson Harry, a 47-year-old woman, a beloved mother, sister, and friend.
Relatives and friends remembered her for the many lives she touched when she was alive.
“We are pained by her death. But we take solace in the fact that she lived a life worthy of emulation,” a surviving relative of late Afonya told National Point.
The late Afonya, fondly called Nene, is survived by her 14-year-old son and other members of her family. Her death left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew her.
Reacting, IB, a friend of the deceased, lamented “It is painful. We never expected this. But God knows best. We are here to support the family and to give her a befitting burial.”
Well-wishers and family members turned out in their numbers to pay their last respects as her remains were committed to mother earth in her hometown, Buguma.
As the community mourned, many called for prayers and support for the family she left behind, especially her young son.
