A Nigerian Army officer, Maj. Isreal Nyanyanyo, has been remembered by his family 34 years after he died in the ill-fated Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft crash.
Nyanyanyo died on September 26, 1992, in the crash involving the C-130 military aircraft, alongside several other Nigerian military personnel.
Ironically, the day of his death was also his birthday.
In a tribute marking the 34th anniversary of his death, his sister, Ruby Iwoyefa Nyanyanyo, described the late officer not only as a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country but also as a loving brother and friend.
She said Nyanyanyo was “kind, jovial, caring” and someone who understood her despite her shortcomings.
“Beyond the uniform and the rank was my dear brother, kind, jovial, caring, and one who always understood me, even with all my shortcomings,” she said.
According to her, the passage of time had not diminished her love and gratitude for her late brother, whose memory remained deeply etched in her heart.
“On this day, I remember not only the soldier he was, but the brother, friend and beautiful soul that he remains to me,” she added.
Paying tribute to his memory, she described him as “my brother” and prayed for his eternal rest.
“You are forever remembered and forever loved,” she said.
Maj. Nyanyanyo was among the Nigerian military personnel who lost their lives in the C-130 crash, an incident that remains one of the country’s significant military aviation tragedies.
