The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Edo State Chapter has paid a courtesy visit to the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki. They were received on the governor’s behalf by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Christopher Osa Nehikare at the Ministry’s Conference room in Benin city.
Speaking during the visit, chairperson of Edo State NAWOJ, Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan, extolled Governor Godwin Obaseki on his developmental stride in the state, and for signing into Law the VAPP Bill.
Comrade Ehimuan appealed to the governor to look into some of the needs of the Association which include, support with a befitting secretariat, creating a women development hub and crèche, as well as a vehicle to aid the mobility of NAWOJians.
Responding to the women’s requests, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr Chris Nehikhare on behalf of the state governor, commended the work being done by women journalists in the state.
He promised to convey the demands of the association to the governor, as well as solicit for the support of the governor on their behalf.
Commenting on the issue of promotion of staff in Edo Broadcasting Service raised by the NAWOJ chairperson, the commissioner stated that, the Obaseki regime was a high performance-driven government, and that the Edo Broadcasting Service was already being transformed to suit the vision of the government, hence the issue of promotion would be handled without any form of sentiments.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Solomon Imohiosen Esq. appreciated NAWOJ for collaborating with the ministry and pledged his continued support.
The event also had in attendance directors in the Ministry while over 15 women journalists drawn from various chapels of the association in the state were in NAWOJ entourage.
