Edo State Police Command has made many feats against criminals and criminal activities in the state.
Briefing journalists in Benin City, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Funsho Adegboye, said in one of the cases, 15 suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from kidnapping, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and other criminal activities.
The commissioner said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Uromi Division, Edo State received credible intelligence from one Daniel Ibhahebhomen, a Sector 1 Commander of Edo State Security Network, Uromi that one Asene Ogah, an ex-convict was invited by Hope Oboh Odianosen, Ikekhua Ehiamen and other members of a criminal gang of kidnappers to join them in kidnapping operations.
“The operatives swung into action and arrested the suspects in different locations of Uromi town of Edo State namely; Idumukhala’s quarters, Uromi, Awo Uromi, Ugboha/Ugboha bush and Egbele, Uromi.”
He gave the names of the suspects as: Hope Ibhazukor, Oboh Odianosen, Ikekhua Ehiamen, Saturday Patrick, Eric Itoha, Emeka Ojon, Charity Opkboh, all ex-convicts and a Juju priest, Kenneth Christopher.
Items recovered from the suspects include, one double barrel gun, one dane gun, six rounds of live cartridges, one box containing charms and two toy pistols.
In another development, the CP said the police also arrested some suspects, on April 8 while carrying out bush combing operation at Amedokhian – Ugboha road behind Federal Polytechnic Uromi.
He said the suspects engaged the police in a gun duel and in the process, one of the kidnappers was killed. He said one AK 47 rifle with 9 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from him and his corpse deposited at St. Chameleons Hospital, Uromi .
Commenting on how the force arrested some cult members and recovered some arms and items, the CP said operatives of Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, Edo North received intelligence that members of Black Axe secret cult were sighted having a meeting in a house at Aviele.
“Brandishing firearms for reprisal attacks on rival secret cult members, the operatives in collaboration with vigilantes group swung into action, arrested two of the suspects namely; Iria Nicholas and Oba Friday, recovered the following items; One AK 47 rifle with double magazine, 15 rounds of live ammunition, one pump action gun, two locally made pistols, two double barrel cut-to-size guns, three battle axes, 19 live cartridges and other exhibits.
Adegboye said the suspects made useful statements and confessed to being members of the secret cult and would be charged to court.
In another matter, Mr. Adegboye said operatives of Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, Edo North Annex office in collaboration with Vigilantes group and Hunters while conducting stop and search duty at Ubiane Quarters in Avielle community; Auchi intercepted one Toyota Camry Car Reg. No. KWL539CZ with four male occupants. During profiling, the driver and two others took to their heels leaving behind one Miracle Woruka ‘m’.
“This prompted searching of the vehicle by the operatives which led to the recovery of one pump action gun, loaded with eight rounds of live cartridges. The suspect will soon be charged to court,” he said.
Adegboye also said one Samuel Aigbedion Osagie, a member of Edo State Security Network was murdered at Oza Street, off Sokponba Road, Benin City and the incident was captured by a CCTV Camera which exposed the real identity of the perpetrators.
The prime suspect, one Akpasa Iniosa, alias Prada was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit. “He confessed to the crime and has since been helping the Police in investigation. Items recovered from the suspect are; Seven Lar ammunition, one live cartridge, One Blue Berrette, one Tecno Phone, One first bank ATM Card and the suspect will soon be charged to court,” the commissioner said.
Similarly, operatives of Adesuwa Division, Benin City, while conducting stop and search duty along Country Home Road, off Sapele Road, Benin City intercepted a Lexus RX 330 jeep Reg. No. YAB891DP with two occupants namely; Omoregbe Prosper, 35, and Emmanuel Osayande, 34, who confessed to being an active members of Aiye secret cult confraternity. The unit also arrested one Osahenrumwen Aigbedion, 36, years old who made statements.
But one of the female suspects, Charity Okpoboh, paraded denied involvement in any crime. She said the police arrested her husband but when she went to give my husband food she was arrested. “They said I am the wife of a kidnapper. The police arrested me and my husband and they started beating us. I don’t know anything about kidnapping.
