The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, ICPC, has commenced the processes of tracking 82 zonal intervention projects in Edo State.
The zonal intervention projects valued at N36, 289,341,305.81, cuts across all sectors including agriculture, education, health, housing, works, power, science and technology, water, empowerment/capacity building, and others.
According to a statement released recently to the press by ICPC, the outcome of the advocacy tracking event which commenced on October 16, 2023, is expected to develop a framework that will help create transparency of information that can be used by the Commission, to provide useful benchmarks and points of reference, with clear metrics that can be used not only to track existing projects but also to determine the potential contributions of future projects.
This, according to the statement, will put major players to task in carrying out the delivery of projects using the funds judiciously available to them for the execution of such projects among other benefits.
According to the Commission, findings reveal that constituency project implementation in Nigeria has contributed meaningfully towards the improvement in the quality of life of average Nigerians in some sections of the country.
It was learnt that, the success stories recorded could have been holistic if project implementation had been devoid of corruption, embezzlement, inflation of contract awards, use of substandard materials, and diversion of funds.
Also identified was, the need for collaboration between the legislature and the people residing in each constituency to synergize their efforts toward achieving inclusive development.
