Justice Depre Tasks Rivers Lawyers On ICT

A prominent judge in Rivers State, Hon. Justice Boma Depre, has called on lawyers to embrace information and communication technology as the world becomes more and more digital.
Justice Depre, who was the Chairman of the Two-Day Colloquium organized by the Rivers State Judiciary has organized under the theme: The Colloquium On the Draft Rules Of the High Court of Rivers State, said due to globalization and information revolution, there was the need for both senior and junior lawyers to embrace ICT. The colloquium took place at the Chief Judge’s Ceremony Court, Port Harcourt.
“The social media or the internet has turned the world to a global village, it has become increasingly impossible for anybody to operate,” Hon. Justice Depre said.
The chairman explained that the last time the authority of the state judiciary and legal minds carried out and treated and examined the pros and cons of rules of the High court of the state was in 2010, pointing out that part of the reasons why lawyers are not going for regular ICT is because they are very busy.
“People are afraid of change and innovation. However, the lawyers in the state are so busy that they don’t go for ICT training.”
Hon. Justice Depre re-assured that if members of the Bench and the Bar work together they would achieve goals and results.
“If all of us work together we will achieve results for a better Rivers State Judiciary Hon. Justice Depre emphasized.
In his remarks, the Chief Judge of Rivers State Hon. Justice Simeon Amadi, said that the problem was not with rules of the state high court judiciary but with lawyers themselves.
“The problem is not with the rules of the state high court but us the senior lawyers. Senior lawyers please try to come for your pretrial conference” Hon. Justice Amadi pleaded.
