NDBDA, Niger Delta Varsity To Boost Food Security

In view of the prevailing high cost of food in the Niger Delta, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, NDBDA, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, has said that the agency would work with the Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State to create food security in the region.
Amgbare disclosed this when the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Allen Agih, paid him a courtesy call at the agency’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The vice-chancellor had said the university was prepared to make its experts available for the agency to use to find a way of creating food security in the Niger Delta.
The NDBDA MD said the agency was prepared to partner the Niger Delta University for the growth and development of the Niger Delta region, and commended the commitment of the University to the growth and development of the region.
He said, “The call for collaboration is timely and the necessary base for a successful coalition between the Basin Authority and the University would be enacted.
“These areas, such as flood, erosion and agricultural features that you have mentioned are core mandates of the Authority and we would do everything within our capacity to sort them out and provide measures of security for our farms, in order to guarantee optimal harvest and promote food security in our region.
Prof. Agih had called on the leadership of the Basin Authority to explore avenues of partnership and collaboration between the two institutions, with a focus on addressing critical regional challenges.
He highlighted the university’s research capabilities and expertise in environmental science, particularly in the area of agriculture, flood and erosion mitigation.
He promised to provide the innovations developed by NDU to promote productivity and agriculture. What I will assure you is that the governor is the owner and custodian of all lands in Rivers State. Everything has a procedure, the procedure for the acquisition of land and all associated rights. If they are not followed, then that process would be repossessed.” The VC reiterated the university’s readiness to contribute significantly to the success of the partnership, fostering a productive relationship that will trickle down to the local communities.
