Members of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, Nkpolu, have marked and celebrated the 2022 International Day of the Girl-Child with the theme: ‘The Girl Child; Empowerment and Knowledge of Her Potentials.’
Speaking at a seminar/awareness seminar organized by the club last Wednesday at the Amphitheatre the Rivers State University (RSU) Nkpolu Oroworukwu, Grace Adikema–Alaegbo, said that the 21st century teenagers and adolescent especially girls should not just use smartphones and other digital devices for just the sake of social media but to use it for research.
According to her, “As female students, if you have phones or social media, please do not use it for fun but use it for research to do your assignment at school. In fact, be wise while using social media. Use it wisely.
The guest speaker and legal practitioner told the girls and young participants to see themselves as intelligent enough to do well at school and later in life, adding that there is need for them to aspire to their full potential.
Adikema-Alaegbo also charged adolescent girls to be careful with the opposite sex during relationship and dating in order to avoid school related gender-based violence and unintended pregnancy.
She urged them to be serious with their studies in order to come out in flying colours after their exams.
