‘Port Harcourt City Love Garden’ Comes Alive Feb 14

The Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government, Hon. Ichemati has named the garden park at the popular Garrison Roundabout, Port Harcourt City Love Garden.
The City Mayor, who disclosed this on his Facebook social media handle on Tuesday, said the love garden would be formally inaugurated on February 14 to mark this year’s Lovers’ Day tagged, Lovers Night With The Sugar Mayor.
The city mayor had last December decorated the roundabout with Christmas lights and planted a garden, which changed the look of the junction and its environment.
Ichemati said the new look of the roundabout is the manifestation of the Clean and Green Project of his administration.
“We are optimistic that other notable roads and junctions within the Port Harcourt Metropolis will be wearing same look before the end of our tenure. Help keep our city clean. Plant a tree today,” he urged residents of Port Harcourt.
Similarly, the local government has inaugurated for use, the Okrika Waterside footbridge located downtown at the old Port Harcourt Township.
The footbridge, which was inaugurated by the Deputy Mayor of the council, Mrs. Wendy Tim-Kalio, was a promise made by the council made to the residents of Ward 6 about a week ago to ensure that they safely crossed the canal from the waterside to the main town.
Tim-Kalio congratulated the people for their patience and support. She said the former footbridge made of plank “was a waiting time-bomb and exposed residents of the area to danger who mostly fell off due to its makeshift nature.”
Ichemati said, “We have in the same vein approved the immediate construction of the road leading from the Sand Field of Okrika Waterside to the bridge that is in a state of mess. The road will be wearing a concrete pavement considering the nature of the environment to enhance durability and longevity.”
The City Mayor in another development made good his promise to donate a commuter bus to a driver, Julius Agumba, after he found the driver decorated free of charge a hired bus he was using with the council’s posters.
Ichemati, who described the donation as “Promise made, promise fulfilled, said the dobation was part of the council’s human capacity drive.
“Today, we have made Mr Julius a bus owner which is part of our human capacity development drive. Making people to be self dependent is what we are on about and God willing, we’ll follow-up this noble course within the life span of our administration.”
