Residents of Port Harcourt have tasked the new Commissioner for Works, Mr. Olisaelloka Tasie-Amadi, to intervene to save motorists and commuters from the suffering they are going through at the Ogbogoro axis of the Port Harcourt Ring Road Project.
The residents who spoke to National Point also pointed out that the slow work by the contractors was causing unnecessary gridlocks for people passing through the areas affected by the project to their destinations.
One of the residents, Mr. John Amadi, who said he plied the route to and fro Port Harcourt every day, congratulated the commissioner on his reappointment said the contractors should be made to hasten up work.
“The job is too slow. We all know the capacity of Julius Berger (the contractor) when it comes to construction work. I don’t think they are giving their best on the projects. I am also hoping that no sabotage is involved. I implore you to carry out serious supervision of all ongoing projects, especially the ring road, which is under your purview,” Amadi said.
Another resident, Mr. Jim George, drew attention of the commissioner to the condition of the Gojehota road at Rumuokwachi village, which is off Ogbogoro road.
He said, “The road is in a deplorable condition. The road is the alternative road from Ogbogoro and Choba to NTA road, and if nothing is done, in the next few weeks, the road will collapse completely. And when that happens, vehicles from Ogbogoro and Choba going to NTA will have nowhere to pass through.
“Then people living at that axis would be subjected to untold hardship. So, I wish to call on the state government, through your office, to do something about the road,” he said.
At the Eleme end of the road, residents have complained about the width of the road, which they said would not contain the volume of traffic, especially at the Agbonchia length of the road.
Mr. Hegi Akogun, said the width of the road, being constructed was not commensurate with the level of expansion that was made to give way to the road. He said a lot of houses were demolished with the understanding that the road would be very wide.
