Rivers Signs MoU For 20,000 Housing Units, Central Spare-parts Market

Rivers State Government has signed a Memo-randum of Understanding (MoU) with two private firms for the development of 20,000 housing units and a central motor spare-parts market in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The MoUs were signed at a special ceremony on Saturday at Government House, Port Harcourt by the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN) for the state government, Mr. Aaron Obelley for New City Development Authority (former Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority), and the Chief Executive Officer of RIV/TAF Africa Global, Mr. Mustapha Njie.
The housing project tagged RIV/TAF City Housing Project will be built on 1,000 hectares of land.
The MoU for the new Central Spare Parts Market was also signed by Adangor for Rivers State government while the Chief Executive Officer of GOSH Project Limited, Okoh Jeff and Engr. Charles signed for GOSH Project Limited.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Rivers State Governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, said the problem of housing for low income earners in the state had been a huge concern and would now be addressed with the planned construction of 20,000 units of affordable houses.
He said, “I am happy to say that one of our greatest problems is housing for the low income earners. Our vision as of today is to provide for that level of people and it is to give our people hope.”
Fubara said that during the electioneering campaigns he promised to develop a modern market for Ikoku Spare-parts market traders to show that his administration would be very caring.
“By the time the spare parts market starts up, we will have a central place where businesses that have to do with vehicles; repairs, sales and other associated activities will be established for the traders. It won’t be just a market, it will also bring about another level of development within that axis,” he said.
The governor charged the investors to ensure immediate commencement of the projects and directed that the ground breaking should take place within one week to show the seriousness attached to the two projects.
Mr. Mustapha Njie said a subsidiary of his company called Pricewise Home Nigeria Limited will develop 20,000 housing in phases on the 1,000 hectares of land and thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them to do the project.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Gosh, Mr Okoh Jeff assured that they will give the best dedication to delivering a central spare part market that will accommodate all traders in that business in one place.
Governor Fubara had the previous week disclosed a plan by the state government to develop four new cities in the state.
