Women in Rivers State, under the platform Rivers Women Unite for SIM, have renewed calls for an end to the emergency rule imposed on the state since March.
The women, during their monthly prayer session held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt, said residents had endured six months of uncertainty and restrictions under the emergency arrangement. They prayed for divine mercy and peace to pave the way for the restoration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly.
With the theme Divine Mercy and Peace, the interdenominational gathering expressed optimism that God’s intervention would bring the emergency rule to an end soon.
“We believe that the period of trial is about to end, and normalcy will return to our dear state,” the women said in a statement signed by their media officer, Comrade Glory Sunday.
They also thanked God for what they described as “the peace and reconciliation already achieved” among political leaders in the state, while urging residents to remain hopeful.
Beyond the political situation, prayers were also offered for Nigeria, the Rivers people, and for strength for families navigating the current challenges.
