The Rotary Club of PH Eco through its Maternal and Child Health Committee, visited the Primary Health Care Centre, Botem in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday, April 20, 2023 to distribute items including mosquito nets, antenatal drugs, urinary and glucose test strips, paracetamol and anti-malarial drugs, hand gloves, methylated spirit, oral rehydration salt sachets and zinc tablets to pregnant women in the community.
According to one of the team leaders, Dr Bieye Briggs, “The distribution of the health products was done after a health talk on family planning, menstrual hygiene and the importance of antenatal care.
A total of 57 women were reached in the course of the visit.
The medical officer of Health of Tai LGA, supervisor for Health represented the Tai LG chairman at the event while the community women leader, youth leaders and head of the health facility head were among persons present at the intervention visit.
Beneficiaries were happy and thanked the Rotary Club of PH Eco for the kind gesture.
On Thursday, April 27, the Club also visited the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Hospital, Rumuolumeni Campus, Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking the Maternal and Child Health Month in Rotary, where it gave a health talk on acute watery diarrhoea, febrile convulsion and malaria to mothers who brought their children for immunization.
Mosquitoes nets, antenatal drugs, oral rehydration salt sachets, zinc and paracetamol tablets were later distributed to over 40 mothers who were in attendance.
