There have been conflicting claims as to who is the authentic speaker of the State House of Assembly that was burnt down during the last impeachment attempt.
Supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike insist that Hon. Martins Amaewhule is still in charge of the House of Assembly as Speaker. But, supporters of Governor Fubara claim that Edison Ehie, who supported the governor during the saga is the new Speaker. Nothing is certain yet for now.
However, Rivers lawmakers loyal to Amaewhule embarked on a two day refresher workshop in Abuja, which was declared open by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
In his remarks, Amaewhule thanked Rt. Hon. Abbas for his commitment to legislative excellence and for accepting to speak to the participants to motivate them in the performance of their work. He stressed that of the 33 members of the Rivers state House of Assembly 27 members were in attendance.
The workshop was organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Abuja.
