Mr. Isaac Kamalu, the former Rivers State commissioner for Finance, and Prof Zacchaeus Adangor, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, resigned their membership of the Rivers State Executive Council after the governor reassigned them to new portfolios.
The resignation of the two former commissioners came a few days after the governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, disclosed that the internally generated revenue of the state had risen sharply from N12 billion monthly to N27 billion.
A few days after this disclosure, the governor authorised the reassignment of Kamalu from the Finance ministry to the ministry of Employment Generation, and Adangor from the ministry of Justice to the ministry of Special Duties.
In his resignation letter, Mr Kamalu said he had worked in the past eight years as commissioner for Finance and Budget and Planning, to raise the revenue profile of the state and said the recent revelation by the governor about the sharp increase of the IGR was not true. He said the political atmosphere in the executive council was no longer conducive for him to continue to serve there.
Similarly, Adangor rejected his reassignment to the ministry of Special Duties and regretted that the governor had in the past few weeks interfered with his schedule as the attorney general, directing him not to defend himself and his office in suits filed against him and the state government.
