The newly appointed Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Tombari Sydney Gbara has said that he would use his tenure to tackle general environmental degradation in the state.
Hon. Gbara, who spoke to National Point, said that as someone from the Niger Delta, particularly from the Ogoni, “I will use my natural experience and knowledge as well as skill to ensure that the issue of environmental degradation in Rivers State will be a thing of the past and there will be better and safer environment for Rivers State and Rivers people.”
The commissioner explained that sooner or later he would invite stakeholders for an interactive session with them with a view to finding a lasting solution to climate change a d biodiversity loss.
The former publicity secretary of the Rivers State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has done well so far.
“Within one year in office as the Governor of Rivers State I want to tell you that Governor Fubara has done well in all sectors. Under his administration he has embarked on the construction of major road projects such as the phase 2 of the Trans Kalabari road, the Elele-Egbede-Omoku road and the Ring Road.
“In an effort to ensure economic prosperity Governor Fubara has also released N4 billion to boost and stimulate the economy in the state. Governor Fubara has also put smile on the faces of the state civil servants by prioritizing their welfare,” Hon. Gbara emphasized.
He lauded Governor Fubara and the leaders of PDP in the state for the opportunity given to him to serve the people of the state, assuring that he will not disappoint them.
He urged the youth of Rivers State and the Niger Delta region to act responsibly and remain law-abiding.
Governor Fubara had during his 100 days in office in September 2023, announced the release of N4 Billion to traders and small and medium scheme enterprises (SMSE) in the state.
