Ms. Usoro Akpabio has been confirmed by the Senate as the pioneer Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC). Also confirmed was Chibudom Nwuche as the Chairman of the Commission.
The confirmation was made after they and other governing board members and executive directors of the commission were screened by the Senate Committee on SSDC chaired by Senator Benson Konbowei.
Other directors confirmed were Chief Marcus Nle Ejii (Rivers State), Executive Director Works and Projects; Steven Aganaba (Bayelsa State), Executive Director, Social and Human Capital Development; Timi Ayibatonye (Delta State), Executive Director Corporate Services; Joseph Ugheoke (Edo), Executive Director Commercial and Environmental Development; and Sony Abang (Cross River), Executive Director, Finance.
The Governing Board members confirmed were Larry Odey (Cross River); Charles Zuofa (Bayelsa (Nkereuwem Ebong (Akwa Ibom); Chika Chinda (Rivers); Femi Oise (Edo); Charles Enukhowhate (North East); Yusuf Amao (North Central; Bukola Braimoh (South West); and Joseph Mamal (South East)
The confirmation session of the Senate was presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, where the senator heaped praises on the new board members and executive directors, hailing their track records and commitment to nation building.
With over 18 years of experience in the energy sector, Akpabio’s appointment was well received by stakeholders in her home state, Akwa Ibom, and other places in the Niger Delta.
She is expected to leverage her experience to drive development in the South-South zone.
Hon. Nle Ejii, a businessman and politician, was once a member of Rivers State House of Assembly and a commissioner for culture in Rivers State.
As the pioneer MD of the SSDC, Akpabio’s confirmation is seen as a significant step toward coordinated development in the South-South region. Her wealth of experience and expertise are expected to drive the commission’s efforts in promoting development and addressing the challenges facing the region.
Akpabio’s background includes serving as an executive at Century Energy and Taleveras, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a deep understanding of the energy sector.
