As part of efforts to boost productivity through institutionalized reward system and motivation, the management of the Edo State Sports Commission, has honoured coach Williams Ikponmwosa Omoroghomwan, with best staff award with cash prize attached.
The weightlifting head coach emerged as the Commission’s Best Staff for the month of January ahead of Kickboxing head coach John Osamwonyi, following the recent exploit of Favour Cornelius who won three gold medals in weightlifting at the Africa Youth Games in Angola.
In a remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. A. P. Amenze, explained that the initiative was introduced by the Head of Service of the state to recognise hardworking, dedicated, and result-oriented workers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the state.
According to her, the award is aimed at motivating staff to improve performance while encouraging others to raise the standard of their service delivery.
She commended the Executive Chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, believes in hard work, excellence, and merit-based rewards.
“The award is intended to motivate employees to perform better and to encourage others to improve their service. It is an opportunity for staff to work harder and achieve even better results in the future,” she added.
Mr. Omoroghomwan joined the Edo State Sports Council in February 2011. He has recorded remarkable achievements, winning numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals for Edo State at national and international competitions, including the 22nd National Sports Festival, 9th Niger Delta Sports Festival, and the African Weightlifting Championship. His athletes have also represented Nigeria with distinction at the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games.
While presenting the award, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele praised Mr. Omoroghomwan’s dedication, professionalism, and result-oriented approach to coaching, describing the honour as a well-deserved recognition of years of hard work and commitment.
Coach Omoroghomwan expressed surprise and deep appreciation for the recognition, thanking the Commission’s management for the honour. He said that the reward was a motivation for him to do more.
