In a bid to stimulate economic development and expand revenue generation, the Asari-Toru Local Government Area has entered into a strategic partnership with the Kalabari Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KALCCIMA).

The Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Onengiyeofori George, disclosed this during a meeting with the leadership of KALCCIMA at his office on Monday.
Dr. George said the collaboration is aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the area through structured development initiatives. He noted that key components of the proposed roadmap include economic and business development planning, resource mapping with a focus on blue economy opportunities, the organisation of a Pan-Kalabari Trade Fair, and the development and management of the Asalga Fish Market.
Highlighting the financial challenges facing the council, the chairman lamented the near absence of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), attributing it to the lack of taxable businesses in the area. He stressed the urgent need for industrialisation to reposition the local economy and assured that the KALCCIMA proposal would receive a thorough and expedited review for prompt implementation.

The chairman also called on the Chamber to prioritise the revival of the Ilelema pottery industry, describing it as a once-thriving economic mainstay that could again provide jobs and income for residents if properly developed.
Earlier, President of KALCCIMA, Elder Monima Daminabo, commended Dr. George for his business-friendly approach and commitment to economic growth in the local government. He expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded the Chamber’s delegation and assured of a productive and results-driven partnership.
The collaboration is expected to open new investment opportunities and strengthen the economic base of Asari-Toru LGA.
