Women under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM have reaffirmed their support for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his efforts to promote peace, unity and sustainable development in the state.
The group also urged women and youths across the state to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them to participate actively in the 2027 general elections.
The women made their position known on Thursday during their August praise and thanksgiving service held at the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt, where they declared that peace remained essential to the development and economic progress of Rivers State.
Speaking at the event, the convener of the group, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton, said the theme of the gathering, “Peace Be Still!”, underscored the need for all stakeholders to work towards preserving peace in the state.
Fulton commended Governor Fubara for what she described as his purposeful leadership and commitment to delivering democratic dividends through the execution and completion of projects across the state.
She particularly cited investments in roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure, saying the projects were improving connectivity, opening up communities, stimulating economic activities and enhancing the welfare of residents.
The convener also commended the peace and reconciliation initiatives of Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, as well as the Rainbow Coalition, for their sustained dialogue and reconciliation efforts.
She appealed to political leaders and other stakeholders to place the collective interest of Rivers State above personal and political ambitions.
According to her, a peaceful environment was necessary to attract investments, create employment opportunities and accelerate infrastructure and human capital development.
Fulton further urged Rivers residents, particularly women and youths, to secure their PVCs, stressing that political participation was critical to determining the future leadership and direction of the state.
Also speaking, Dr. Priye Oarhe led the congregation in an exhortation and charge, while the women offered prayers for enduring peace in Rivers State, wisdom for political leaders at all levels and the wellbeing of women and youths in the state.
The group said it remained committed to initiatives that would promote peace, unity and sustainable development in Rivers State.
