The Horsfall family has announced the death of Chief Albert Korubo Horsfall, a prominent elder statesman and one of the founding fathers of Rivers State.
Chief Horsfall, who was described by his family as a distinguished public servant, administrator and statesman, died peacefully after what the family described as a fulfilled and impactful life dedicated to God, his family, community, Rivers State and Nigeria.
In a statement signed by his son, Chief Donald Albert Horsfall, on behalf of the family, the deceased was described as “an illustrious son of the Niger Delta” who made significant contributions to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria.
According to the family, Chief Horsfall served the nation with uncommon dedication, integrity and patriotism, leaving behind an enduring legacy of leadership, wisdom and selfless service.
The statement said that as one of the founding fathers of Rivers State and an elder statesman of national repute, Chief Horsfall played invaluable roles in the growth and development of the state and the country.
“His counsel, courage, and commitment to justice, peace, and good governance earned him the admiration of generations of leaders and citizens alike,” the family said.
While mourning what it described as an irreparable loss, the family said it drew comfort from the remarkable life he lived and the legacy he left behind.
It said his memory would continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and benefiting from his wealth of knowledge, experience and compassion.
The family said details of the funeral arrangements and other related activities would be announced in due course.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
Horsfall, who had a successful career in the security industry, served in the Nigeria Police Force, the defunct Nigerian Security Organisation. He was the first Director of the National Intelligence Agency and Deputy Director of the State Security Service.
After leaving the security services, Chief Horsfall was appointed the pioneer Chairman of the defunct Oil Minerals Producing Areas Development Commission from where he left to play very roles in the leadership of the Niger Delta region.
