The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), has dissociated itself from the call to sack Senator Godswill Akpabio, the minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
IYC said the Ijaw youths have distanced themselves from a call for the sack of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen Godswill Akpabio because it is detrimental to the development of the region.
Their position is contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists Friday by the Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council worldwide, Daniel Dasimaka, who revealed that the IYC has nothing to do with the earlier circulated statement calling for Sen Akpabio’s sack.
The statement reads in part:” The IYC is pleased with the moves Senator Akpabio has taken so far as Niger Delta Minister. We wholeheartedly welcome the call to audit the activities of the NDDC and to repositioning of the Commission and other MDAs saddled with the responsibilities to develop our region.
“We are all aware of the uncommon transformation that the Minister brought to Akwa Ibom in his 8 years as Governor and desire to see him replicate same in the entire region.
“There is therefore no way the IYC or any development seeking youths from our region would call for the sack of an agent of positive change like Sen Akpabio. The call for his sack is the handiwork of impostors who want to leverage on the influence and credibility of the IYC to push their own agenda.”
The statement added that for the avoidance of doubt, Barrister Pereotubo Oweilaemi, who is the President of the IYC worldwide, have thrown his weight behind the youths in an on Unwavering support for Seen. Akpabio.
The statement therefore called on the public to disregard the purported call for the Minister’s sack.
