The Gubernatorial Primary Election Screening Committee has disqualified the former Cross River resident electoral commissioner, REC and aspirant in the November 16 Bayelsa State governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Dr. Frankland Briyai from participating in the party primaries.
Dr. Briyai was not cleared to contest for the party primary election on grounds of section 3 Paragraph “L” of the Guidelines for Nomination of Candidates.
This was disclosed in the report of the Seven-man Screening Committee signed by the chairman, Rt. Hon. Isa Song after the successful screening of the seven aspirants vying for the party ticket at the APC Secretariat in Yenagoa on August 24, 2019.
Other aspirants cleared were Mr. Preye Aganaba, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, Ms. Diseye Poweigha, Mr. David Lyon, Engr. Prof. Ongoebi Etebu and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
According to the Screening Committee report, balloting of Nos 1-7 was adopted for which each of the aspirants was made to pick to determine the order for which they will appear before the committee.
It further stated that each aspirant was asked questions relating to qualifications and conduct in line with both the party constitution, Electoral Guidance to contest for the governorship primary election, evidence of membership of party, voter’s card, payment of prescribed fees as well as the original copies of their credentials.
Other members of the screening committee are Clement Chinaka, secretary, Hon. Jock Alamba, Hon. Bolaji Repete, Abubakar Umar Jerengol, Adoh Oguta and Hon. Muhammad Ibrahim Sani.
