The Leadership and members of Tonye Cole/Barikor Campaign Organization (TCCO), Akuku-Toru LGA, received with utter displeasure, the unwarranted attack by members of the PDP/GDI group on the campaign train and materials/ equipment of the APC Rivers State Governorship Candidate, Pastor Tonye Patrick Cole, MNI, in a deliberate attempt to prevent the APC from campaigning in Opobo/Nkoro LGA, home town of the Gubernatorial Candidate of PDP, Siminalayi Fubara; in collaboration with some officers of the security agencies in the State.
It should be on record that the APC in Rivers State has suffered so much losses within the short period of kick-starting her state-wide campaigns.
This is because some undemocratic elements in the name of GDI/PDP, erroneously believe that no other party should exist in the state except them.
Let it also be on record that the security agencies and especially the Commissioner of Police is yet to make any definite response with regards to investigation, arrest or prosecution to our cries, complains, brutalities and all manner of violence and social vices upon our people and other opposition political parties in the state. And not forgetting the ugly incident at PHALGA campaign rally which was given a different coloration by the Nigerian Police while sweeping a life-threatening situation under the carpet; the use of the men of the Nigeria Police Force to forcefully deny us an already approved venue for rally in Oyigbo LGA; the attempt to disrupt our campaign rallies in Asari-Toru LGA and even in Asarama, just to mention but a few.
It’s also pertinent to state unequivocally that no one man has the monopoly of violence and as such, that this will be the last time we are going to entertain any of such attacks from Governor Wike, his GDI/PDP militant group, and/or their evil agents and partners in crime.
We will no longer fold our hands to the bewilderment of the Nigeria Police Force in Rivers State and helplessness of our members, whilst these criminal elements continue in their show of terror and evil plots against the APC and other opposition political parties in Rivers State.
We want to state categorically, without mincing words, that the way and manner these trends of violence orchestrated by the ruling party and some officers of the security agencies are going, if no action is taken swiftly to remedy the situation, we may be forced to consider self-help as a means of protecting our people.
We, in Akuku-Toru LGA, and Kalabari as a nation, will not fold our hands and watch our illustrious son being put in harms-way while seeking to bring about positive development and advancement to our dear State.
We therefore say: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
The last time we checked, we are in a democratic system, where people have the right to express themselves within the confines and provisions of the law. And the APC in Rivers State has always played by the rules of the game, hence, does not deserve the barbaric and undemocratic treatment meted to it by Gov. Wike’s thugs, marshalled out against opposition political parties in the state, in the guise of 200,000 SAs.
The Tonye Cole/Barikor Campaign Organization (TCCO), Akuku-Toru LGA, is using this medium to call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, Presidential Candidate of the APC, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Chairman of our party, His Excellency, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the heads of security agencies, especially the Inspector General of the Police, and all relevant authorities, to wade into the unfortunate incidents presently experienced by the opposition political parties in the state, in order not to plunge the state and residents into another round of political rascality, violence and unnecessary deaths, as experienced in 2015 and 2019.
Conclusively, we believe democracy gives everyone the opportunity to choose their preferred leaders and not an avenue for anybody to unleash any form of violence on fellow citizens, therefore, we call on all well meaning individuals of the State to toe the path of peace and unity, as we choose those who will pilot the affairs of the state in the next four years term.
