The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has revealed that thanksgiving remains his only source of strength and victory from every battle he had ever encountered in life.
The deputy governor who spoke on Wednesday at Ofoni in Bayelsa State during a thanksgiving service however enjoined all Christians to see thanksgiving as a bounden duty, stressing that nobody receives anything good outside the grace of God.
In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi, the Deputy Governor, noted that the annual Ofoni thanksgiving day provides the people a unique opportunity to renew their spiritual strength and commitment to God.
He described this year’s edition as special and symbolic, expressing hope that the prayers offered would not only pull down strongholds in the community but also usher in a new level of success and breakthroughs.
His words, “As the man of God said, the 10th number symbolizes completion. And so, we are now entering a new beginning; a beginning of new success, breakthroughs and a new beginning of being a battle axe for God.
“It is symbolic because each time we come here for this ritual, we renew our strength spiritually and also renew our commitment to God.
“There is nothing God requires from us than to thank Him. And so, we owe this thanksgiving to God because it is not by our power, strength, might and wisdom that we have seen all these years till now.
“For me, if I don’t thank God, it means I’m behaving like the nine lepers in the Bible who forgot what God did for them. So, I want to try as much as I can to behave like the one leper that remembered to thank God.
“And this ritual of thanksgiving you see me do is the source of my strength and victory from every battle waged against me. That is why no battle can conquer us.”
In his sermon titled, “You Are My Battle Axe”, drawn from Jeremiah Chapter 51 Verse 20, Ven. Abraham Agberhe of the Anglican Communion, emphasized the need for Christians to build themselves spiritually as the times are evil.
Ven. Agberhe, who quoted copiously from the Bible including Ephesians Chapter 6 Verse 10-12, said “God is still using those who truly believe in Him to destroy strong and mighty satanic forces in communities and nations across the world.”
It was thanksgiving galore, on Wednesday, as the leadership and people of Ofoni Federated Communities in Sagbama Local Government Area, turned out in their numbers to appreciate God for His manifold blessings on them in the outgone year.
Led by their Amananaowei, HRH Chief Auditor Onakpohor, the people expressed their thankfulness to God in songs, dancing and offerings at the grand finale of the 10th Ofoni Annual Solemn Assembly and Thanksgiving Service.
The interdenominational service, had in attendance, Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, and the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Solomon Agwanana.
Highlights of the well attended service included thanksgiving by different families and groups as well as special prayers for the Deputy Governor and his family by Prof. Ebitimi Weigha of Christ Chambers Church, Koroama-Gbarain.
