Patrons of the Metropolitan Battalion Council of the Boys Brigade Nigeria, under the Rivers State Command have been inaugurated with a sense of urgency.
Speaking during the inauguration of the 2023, re-dedication/flag-off/revalidation service at St. Johnson’s Church, Port Harcourt Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of the Niger Delta over the weekend, the state president of the council, Sir Golden Tamuno said the duty of the patrons is to serve as mentors to the Boys’ Brigade members and other youth across the country.
“The duty and function of the patrons of the Boys Brigade is to mentor the Boys Brigade as well as guide them to become good citizens. Today, we inaugurated about six new members as patrons of the Metropolitan Battalion Council of the Boys Brigade in Rivers State. Both the old and new patrons of our council will guide these young ones.”
Sir Tamuno who was represented at the occasion by Sir Magnus Tuboalabo explained that in order to get it right for the youth they do not need much.
“Sometimes those boys and girls do not need much to be encouraged and supported. Therefore, my best advice to the patrons, elders and fathers as well as mothers is to see that we help our children and youth that are growing up to realize their potentials. The only way we can get these boys and girls out from the streets is to mentor them such as paying their tuition fees,” Sir Tamuno emphasized.
He hinted that the Boys Brigade is founded under the rock of Christ for God, pointing out that it is an international organization which is also non-denominational.
“The Boys Brigade is an international organization. It is also non-denominational. There is no age limit for boys and girls to belong to the Boys Brigade,” Sir Tamuno added.
On his part, the vicar of St. Johnson’s Church, Bishop Johnson Street, Port Harcourt, Ven. Jenbo Pono said it was a thing of joy that St. Johnson’s Church played host to the Metropolitan Battalion Council of the Boys Brigade.
Ven. Pono told the newly inducted members of the council to shun cultism and social vices and embrace Christian values.
“My charge to the newly inaugurated members of the Metropolitan Battalion Council of the Boys Brigade is that since we are living in a society where evil is legalized and political, they should keep to Christian values and maintain the way of God,” Ven. Pono stressed.
Vice Chairman of the Metropolitan Battalion Council of the Boys Brigade in Rivers State, Sir Tamunomie Arthur Ebenezer said he was satisfied with the growth and development of the Metropolitan Battalion Council of the Boys Brigade in the state.
He urged the Boys Brigade Council to be good ambassadors and ambassadresses of the council.
The theme for the 2023 Pre-dedication and Revalidation Services was ‘Consent Though Not’ (Proverbs 1:10).
