The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State has come under severe verbal attack by the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) for making false claims and misleading the public over the defection of some of its party members over the weekend.
The PDP, in in a rally on Saturday, had received some APC decampees but according to the opposition, the list as reeled out by the PDP also included names of members who did not decamp.
Addressing journalists, one of the purported decampees, Apostle Victor Sorokwu expressed dismay over what he described as PDP’s desperation and propaganda.
Apostle Sorokwu, who was the immediate past secretary of APC in Delta North, revealed that the PDP did send emissary to him with ‘mouth-watering’ offer to jump ship and join the ruling party but according to him, he declined because he had made integrity his watchword.
Sorokwu said what PDP did was a tell-tale sign that the party was already jittery over the growing popularity of the APC in Delta State.
On those that decamped to the PDP, Apostle Sorokwu, who was flanked by party leaders at the occasion, described them as the moles and political merchants who were collecting money from the ruling PDP in the state to destroy the APC, adding that with the exit of the moles from the opposition party, the APC was poised to clinch the 2023 electoral victory in the state.
Also speaking, the Delta vice chairman of APC, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka corroborated Apostle Sorokwu’s position, adding that very soon there would be mass defection from PDP to APC.
The chairman said those that left the APC had no political value and relevance as none of them ever delivered his ward during elections.
