The Edo State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP), has launched a wide-screen television to showcase its governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki’s campaign activities ahead of the governorship election in the state.
Launching the wide screen television set at the Ring Road, Benin City, chairman, Godwin Obaseki Campaign Organisation, Chief Dan Orbih said it is the first of its kind in the state’s politics.
Orbih said the television screen would afford citizens of the state opportunity to monitor the campaign activities of the PDP governorship candidate even if they can’t go along with him to the campaign grounds.
Said he, ” I am here to also see this campaign innovation by Governor Godwin Obaseki where they will be playing most of his campaign jingles. Sometimes, people will be here to watch some of the campaign visit to different local governments and even if you are not able to go with him, you can have a very good view of some of the activities in the course of our campaigns.
“I think this is quite commendable and I believe it is a new chapter in campaign arrangements to reach out to more people. Some people don’t even have access to television”.
He said the campaign tour will reach all state.
“Let me say that we have concluded the campaign tour to Edo Central Senatorial District and we will be starting that of Edo South Senatorial District tomorrow morning and I believe just as we have done in the other two senatorial districts.
“We are going to move from ward to ward, taking the message to the people, letting them know that this election is about them and about their future”, he said.
Chief Orbih attacked former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Adams Oshiomhole over his statement that it was Godwin Obaseki who persuaded him to suspend the Onojie of Uromi, Anslem Ehizoje.
He said those seeking governorship position in the state should always think before acting to avoid going about kneeling down to beg after leaving office.
“In the course of our visit to Edo Central, I saw the opposition party, the APC. The APC was issuing statements, suggesting that the suspension of Enojie of Uromi was at the instance of the current governor.
“I want to say quite clearly here that it seems to me that the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole is having some problems in recollecting what really happened when he was in office. I want to educate him a bit. At the time the Onojie of Uromi was suspended, Oshiomhole was still the governor of the state. The person that lifted the suspension was the current governor. So, they should go back and get their fact right.
“I know that there are a lot of things that Oshiomhole did in office that today, he is regretting them. That is why you see him going about, kneeling down and begging people for forgiveness’’.
The Obaseki Campaign head advised Oshiomhole and his candidate, Ize-Iyamu to go beg the traditional ruler.
“All he should do, is to go with his candidate, Pastor OsagieIze-Iyamu to the Onojie of Uromi’s palace and beg for forgiveness just as he has been doing. He should go there and kneel down and begging him for forgiveness.
“There is no point in him trying to change the story. He was the executive governor at the time the man was suspended. The current governor, Godwin Obaseki took over and lifted the suspension order issued by Oshiomhole few days to the end of his tenure”.
He called for consistency and honour on the part of politicians.
“I think for us as a political party, the issues for the election are quite clear. Do we want to go backwards were people will be suspended for no just reasons and you come in few years after to say if you have the opportunity again, you will do the same; few days later, you come out to say the suspension was instigated by another person?
“I believe it is time for politicians to behave as honourable people. There is no point, if you take decisions, you should be able to stand by them and not to start changing or kneeling down after to start begging for forgiveness.
