The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wish to express it’s condolence to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the families of those Policemen that were murdered in cold blood at Ahiara junction in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area on Monday 27th November, 2023 and in many occasions in other parts of Imo State and South East Region by unidentified gunmen.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is deep in pain because of the lost of Policemen and other Security Operatives in the hands of bandits in Imo State and other States in South East Region within the last four years.
It’s imperative to inform the general public that from the recent development in Imo State it’s getting clearer that Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State lack the Capacity, the knowledge and Indigenous Support to effectively combat banditry and Insecurity and Restore Sustainable Peace in the State. Though the governor has demonstrated adequate political will in fighting banditry in the State since his inception as Governor but his strategies are crude and brigandish and therefore may not yield the anticipated positive results.
It’s on record that since Senator Hope Uzodimma assumed Office as the governor of Imo State since January 2020, the Economy of the State has constantly deteriorated, the State further militarized, thereby causing untold hardship on the Masses.
On the foregoing, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) hereby challenge the Senator Hope Uzodimma led APC government to publish his achievement’s since inception to office as Governor of Imo State since January 2020. The ADC has note that the Senator Hope Uzodimma led APC government has no Program on Agriculture, Education, Health Care, Housing, Industry, Infrastructure, Security, Youth and Women Development etc. The Senator Hope Uzodimma has wasted three years and ten months without tangible achievements as Governor of Imo State.
On the Fight Against Mondays Sit-at-Home:
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wish to applaud the boldness of the New Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Danjuma Aboki on his declaration of war against the monstrous Monday’s Sit-at-Home that has ravaged Imo State and South East Region since over three years.
Though while it necessary to end the illegal Sit-at-Home enforced by non State Actors, it’s also important for the Commissioner of Police, CP Danjuma Aboki to conduct the Conflict Analysis in other to have proper understanding of the cause, dynamics, trend and trigger factors of the conflict. We also recommend that the Commissioner of Police divide the Security program into three phases. Phase One should be to provide adequate Security and build confidence so Banks, State Ministries, Federal Ministries and other private Service providers in Owerri Metropolis to regularly open for business on Mondays. Phase Two, provide adequate Security on the roads to enable motorists to plight the roads without attacks from the bandits on Mondays, and Phase three, to deploy adequate Police Intelligence and Surveillance Team to patrol all the hot spots in the various communities in the Local Government Areas.
In addition, we recommend that CP Danjuma Aboki should convene an inclusive Town Hall Brainstorming Dialogue with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on areas of Security, Conflict Prevention,Resolution, Management and Peacebuilding in Imo State to jointly develop a Template on how to effectively combat the menace of Insecurity in Imo State.
