The national chairman of the Labour Party, Mr. Julius Abure, has narrated how the party in Edo state was denied the use of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and other venues in the state for its presidential rally by the state government.
Abure, who was addressing party members and supporters in Benin recently, also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for causing hunger, insecurity, unemployment and other social vices prevalent in Nigeria. He therefore called on the electorate to throw away the parties as bad products out of government in the next general elections.
The LP chairman said the national leadership was in Benin to appreciate leadership of the party in the state, members and various support groups that made the presidential rally in the state a success.
Abure regretted that those who benefited from the struggle to enthrone democracy and the rule of law unfortunately also, were the very people that tried to sabotage the Labour Party rally in Benin City.
“Those our enemies who benefited from our struggle for the enthronement of democracy and the rule of law, were the ones bent on truncating our planned rally in Benin City on the 11th of November,” he stressed.
“We applied for the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium for the rally. They denied us and they went ahead and planned to block us from having any venue for the rally. They denied us the use of the Museum ground. We went to the UBTH ground and they went behind and blocked the chances. We went to the UNIBEN Sports ground, the enemies went behind and blocked us.
“I must therefore, appreciate the management of Baptist Convention for availing us the use of their halls and the ground for the rally which turned out to be the best so far in Nigeria,” he said.
“APC and the PDP are like purchased bad products that must be thrown away outright since they have become valueless,” he said about the two major political parties, which he accused of being the cause of the hunger in the land.
“The PDP and the APC are the reason why there is so much hunger, insecurity and unemployment in the land, therefore like bad products, we must throw them out and enthrone the best alternative which, is the Labour Party with its flag bearer, Mr Peter Obi.”
He urged the party leadership in the state and the various support groups and members of the party to translate the wide acceptance of the Labour Party in the state to victory in the 2023 general elections.
The Edo State chairman of LP, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, while speaking to reporters condemned the refusal of Edo State Government to allow the party use public facilities in the state.
“We have been so reduced to a level of refusing citizens the use of public facility, built with the hard earned money of the very people irrespective of party affiliation. We have therefore decided to double our efforts to work harder to ensure we deliver on what we desire to do in government, when we come into office in 2023.”
