Delta State Branch of an international women group, Okpotopo Ada Igbo Worldwide took to the street in the state capital, Asaba on.., to protest the violation of women and girls in country through rape.
The women group led by Mrs Ngozi Odiwe who represented the president, Hon Josephine Kachikwu, among others, are agitating for strict and stiff punishment for rape offenders with the belief that if everyone, especially women, who, are the most targeted come together to form a formidable force, positive changes will come.
The women used the opportunity to educate the public, especially the youth on the need to cry out without fear if sexually molested or raped, pointing out that there are government and non-governmental bodies out there positioned to help fight against such abuses
The women who paraded placards condemning abuse of women and girls rights such as, “Crying means No”, “Girls deserve to be Respected”, “Rape is Dehumanzing”, “Shouting means No”, “Stop Child Abuse”, “Stop Domestic Abuse”, “Government Support the Rights of the Girl Child”, “Girls are Precious, Government Pls. Act”. “Leave Me Alone means No”, “Say No to Rape”.
The women paid visits to the Delta State Broadcasting Service, Nigerian Television Station, Bridge FM, the Delta State Women Affairs Ministry and markets within the state capital.
