Driven by the need to improve safety and security in the entire Emohua Local Government Area, the executive chairman of the area, Dr. Chidi Julius Lloyd, has built and completed the Emohua Vigilante Service (EMOVIS) Security office facility.
Commissioning the project recently at Mgbuitanwo at Emohua in Emohua Local Government of Rivers State. The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Friday Eboka said that since security is everyone business there was no need to leave security matters to the security agencies alone.
“In fact, there is the need for synergy and collaboration as well as sharing information between the civilian and security agencies in Emohua LGA. The civilian must not leave security matter to security along.”
The CP who was represented at the event by the DPO of Rumuji police station, Mr. Nnameka Didigwu state that since EMOVIS has come to stay, the police would work closely with officials of EMOVIS.
“Since EMOVIS has come to complement the Police we will not only cooperate with them but we will work hand-in-glove with officials of EMOVIS. This is because EMOVIS cannot do it alone. However, we are also asking the staff of EMOVIS not to go beyond their duty and mandate. Besides, as EMOVIS official, you should now that you cannot torture any person. You do not have to carry out any operation without the officers and men of the Nigeria Police if you are involved in crime you will be punished.”
Mr. Eboka warned cultists and those who kidnap along Emohua LGA and Kalabari axis to desist. “As youth, you must know that initiating yourselves into cultism is the easiest way to destroy yourselves. Those who are kidnapping along Emohua LGA and Kalabari axis, also perpetuating evil at Obele Town in Emohua LGA to desist from these acst. If you have not gotten anything to do, try to find what to do. The time to change is now. And try to embrace dialogue and reconciliation as well as peace,” Mr. Eboka cautioned.
He urge the youths from the various communities in the LGA to guard their communities jealously.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the executive chairman of Emohua LGA, Chidi Lloyd said that on assumption of office last June, there were conflicting reports about the activities of OSPAC as well as the decorating security situation in the area, hence the need to set up the LGA Security outfit known as EMOVIS.
“On assumption of office in June last year, we noticed that the security situation in this LGA needed urgent attention. Besides, there were also conflicting reports about the activities of some OSPAC members in the area. This situation led to the establishment of EMOVIS in the area,” Dr. Lloyd declared.
He hinted that the approach and style of the council is consultation.
“Our approach is consultation with traditional rulers and relevant stakeholders before we execute nay project.”
He went further: “The need to build this security facility as well as EMOVIS was as a result of the several security challenges bedeviling this LGA before now.”
The chairman stated that EMOVIS was not set up to win any election but, to give information to the police as well as assist them.
“EMOVIS is not a political propaganda to win any election. The purpose of this security outfit is to assist security agencies in Emohua LGA. In addition, your duty is to provide cogent information to the Police and Sister Security agencies in Emohua LGA,” Dr. Lloyd disclosed.
The former leader of the Rivers House of Assembly (RSHA) maintain that staff of EMOVIS would not bear arms, assuring them that the council has made an arrangement for their upkeep.
“The staff of EMOVIS are not to bear arms and ammunition. All the staff of EMOVIS should shun robbery and criminality, Dr. Lloyd warned.
Also speaking, the chairman of PCRC of Rumuji Police Divisional Headquarters, HRH Eze Hon. Bob Chima Okala said that he is happy with the establishment of EMOVIS because it would help to improve the security architecture of the LGA, adding that the orientation and training given to the staff of EMOVIS at Rumuji last year is a positive development.
“I am happy with the establishment of EMOVIS in this LGA. This is because the staff of the security outfit will not only complement the effort of the Nigeria Policies in the area but, will also help to improve the security architecture of the area as well as to ensure that the people sleep with their two eyes closed.” Eze Okala assured.
He charged the staff of EMOVIS in the area to work according to the procedure and legislation on which they were establish, stressing on the need for the staff of EMOVIS to comply with the directives given to them by Dr. Lloyd and the Emohua legislators.
He promised that the leaders of PCRC in the area would meet with the DPO of Rumuji Police Divisional Head Quarter to see how members of PCRC can contribute and support EMOVIS and other security agencies in the area.
On his part the Commander of Diobu Vigilante, Prince Amatari said that the chairman of Emohua LGA, Dr. Lloyd should be given credit for his vision and for sight to improve the security architecture of the area.
