President of World Medical Association (WMA), Dr. Osahon Enabulele says the world body is fully ready to collaborate with the Edo State government to render good and quality healthcare to the people.
The former NMA president made the disclosure when he and his entourage paid a thank you visit to Governor Godwin Obaseki at Government House, Benin city.
Dr. Enabulele who is also the former Edo State NMA chairman told the governor they came to appreciate his support and seek areas of collaboration.
Said he, “Your Excellency, we have come not to make demands but to thank you for your support for my inauguration as president of WMA on October 7 in Berlin Germany this year. The last time we came we spoke at length on what the state of healthcare would look like in term of the global world medical association and we asked very fervently for your presence and Your Excellency response to that request was in the affirmative- ‘Dr. Osahon Enabulele, you belonged to that group in Berlin. The State Government will be with you there both in spirit, body and physically. And we are here to say thank you for being able to fulfil that promise”.
He said the governor went beyond that.
“Flowing from which you did a lot more. You galvanized a lot of support for us and ensured we all arrived safely in Berlin in Germany and to ensure we all had a good time in Berlin,” supports which memories he said will in their consciousness.
Continuing, he said, “The night the deputy governor called me, it changed the whole atmosphere when he said, ‘we are here in Berlin’. I said waoo! Edo is in Berlin. I want to say to you Your Excellency, you were the major contributors to the success of the event in Berlin.
“I am happy the Deputy Governor, Philips Shaibu was in Berlin. I want to also use this opportunity to thank the Edo state government for according us that respect in Germany.
“I want to say that the WMA looks forward to a very strong collaboration in health with the Edo State government. We want to thank you for this supports, and to say we will not take it for granted. First for the hospitality you granted us when we came to pay a visit before we went to Berlin.
“Secondly, the huge support you gave to us, I want to thank you again and to let you know that we have come back from Berlin, Germany. Not only have we come back from Berlin, we are here to strike further collaboration and partnership with the Edo State government.
“Immediately after my inauguration on October 7, 2022, we hit the ground running because it is clear that the expectations from an African presidency in WMA is very high. And will not in any way want the enthusiasm or the kind of confidence that is reposed in this presidency to evaporate so soon.
“We have since hit the ground running, and we thought that the very first port of call is to come to Edo State to let the government know that we have started work very aggressively. We are very open to drive further collaborations with the Edo State government in the various areas we have initiated to the end of my last face.
“We are trying to bring out more actionable programmes that we can use to drive and advance quality healthcare for Africa and Asia, looking again to the whole issue of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), with the readiness with the Universal Health Coverage which is SDG3.
“In Nigeria and Africa, the issue of human health is very vital. Everywhere we go that has been the major issue. We are looking at it again and work has started in WMA since and more several others”.
The new world medical association president promised to bring the world down to the state to see the work being done there.
“One thing I said last time, and we are going to be serious about it, is that before my tenure ends as the president of WMA, the whole world will come to Benin city to see what we have here in Benin and to strike health partnership with the Edo State government.
