Port Harcourt—The paramount ruler of Sambo Ama in Twon Brass Kingdom of Bayelsa State, HRH Samuel Sambo, has admonished Nigerian youths to avoid violence and politics of bitterness ahead of the approaching political campaign season for the 2023 general elections.
In a statement sent to newsmen on Sunday, Sambo urged youths not to be used as tools by politicians to cause mayhem in their communities.
According to him, elections are avenues for the people to choose leaders that would effectively manage their common resources, adding that no good leader would instigate people to cause crisis.
In his words: “We are approaching the campaign season which historically comes with heated arguments and fights.
“As a royal father, I must remind youths of the need to play politics without bitterness that will only claim lives and take our communities backward.
“We have no other place to call our home. If youths allow themselves to be used to cause crisis then the communities our forefathers bequeathed to us will be destabilized, just as we have witnessed in several instances.

“The reason for elections is to choose political leaders that we think can equitably distribute our common resources, echo our voices when it matters most, and provide the amenities needed to make life easier for all.
“Nigerian youths must know that no leader who means well for the people will instigate them to perpetrate evil against perceived political opponents.“History has taught us that a crisis-ridden society cannot experience progress. So no youth should be a willing tool for ill-prepared leaders to cause havoc.”
The traditional ruler opined that the Nigerian electoral system is now reliable more than ever, citing the outcome of the recent Ekiti and Osun state gubernatorial election as proof.
He, therefore, urged youths to weaponize their PVCs to dislodge nonperforming leaders instead of wielding guns and other dangerous weapons.
“The recent Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections have made it clear that our electoral system is now credible and transparent like never before. The implication is that power now truly belongs to the people in that with your PVC you can decide who goes and stays in office.
“Nigerian youths should prepare to fight with their PVCs and not machetes and guns in the 2023 elections because the times when elections were won through violence are gone,” Sambo stated.
