The out-going chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch, Mr. Viktor Ibim Benibo, has said that he did his best during his tenure as chairman.
Benibo stated this during the 2024 NBA Port Harcourt Branch Awards ceremony themed, A Day of Distinction; Celebrating Exceptional Service to the Bar.
According to him, “As the out-going chairman of NBA Port Harcourt Branch I don’t know if I have done well within my tenure but I know tried my best. If I had more time the next project I would have embarked upon would have been the construction of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch Lodge where visiting lawyers and fresh NYSC members could lodge until they secured their own respective residence or house.”
Benibo explained that the purpose of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch 2024 Award Day of Distinction celebration was to honour lawyers from both the Bar and the Bench.
“I want to tell you that the purpose of the NBA Port Harcourt 2024 Award was to honour distinguished lawyers who are members of the Bar and the Bench as well as some other judicial staff. The awards were also aimed at inspiring young lawyers,” he added.
The chairman stated that the Awards were bestowed and conferred on legal professionals who have contributed in no small measures to the growth and development of the judiciary.
“Young lawyers need tutelage and patience. They need to differentiate student unionism from legal practice. You don’t practice law for economic reasons. It is not a money making profession but it is for service to people and humanity. As I said earlier young lawyers have to be patient. The objective of this profession is not to make money but to render service to persons and humanity,” Ibim Benibo advised.
He commended the Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara for his support to members of the various NBA branches in the state.
