The President-elect of the National Association Of Delta State Students Union (NADESSTU), Comrade Monday Wiska has frowned at the diverted N25m earmarked by the state government for Students’ Town Hall Meetings, describing it as an aberration.
He promised members that all property and belongings of the union must be judiciously used for the benefit of students.
Wiska made the revelation on Tuesday at the NUJ Press Centre, Asaba, Delta State while briefing journalists.
Harping on prudence and accountability, he declared that all those who in the past had misappropriated the finances of NADESSTU must be brought to book.
He congratulated the incoming governor of Delta State, Hon. Oborevwori Sheriff, and he urged him to reconsider the downward review of school fees in the state’s higher institutions, pointing out that it would reduce the sufferings of parents and increase students’ enrollment in all the state academic institutions.
He also charged the incoming governor to jettison multiple appointments with regards to overseers of Students Affairs which he blamed for the infighting in NADESSTU.
Speaking on the harsh economic situation in the country, the President-elect also appealed to the incoming governor to increase the bursary paid to Delta State students as well as the number of scholarships to students.
Wiska also congratulated members of the newly constituted Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC Board as he urged them to expand the scholarship scheme to truly involve students from the oil producing areas.
The new helmsman of NADESSTU assured members that his administration will serve their interests with a pledge that the Egyptians they saw before would be seen no more.
He explained his visit and consultations within the four zones of the union have kept him abreast with the challenges of the union which his tenure would surmount.
“Delta students should rejoice because the Egyptian you see today, you shall see no more. In the course of my consultation across the four zones, I have the rare privilege to be inundated with the peculiar challenges and plight of our students and the issues that continue to undermine and divide our dear association.
“It is my pledge that my administration will address all these concerns and put them to a permanent rest,” he stated.
