A suspected cultist, who engaged policemen in a gun duel was recently killed by men of the Delta State Police Command at the Udu Express Junction in Udu Local Government Area of the state. This was confirmed by the police.
The yet-to-be identified man was alleged to have engaged some police operatives in a gun duel during a fracas between suspected rival cult groups in the area.
Udu Council chairman, Mr Jite Brown had last week imposed a curfew in the urban areas of the council over clashes between suspected cult groups in the areas. But the clashes persisted despite the curfew, a situation that necessitated policemen from Ovwian/Aladja Division to move to Udu Express Junction to put an end to the clash.
It was gathered that a suspected cultist from one of the groups allegedly opened fire on the operatives, leading to an exchange of gun fire.
In the crossfire that erupted, the suspected cultist was gunned down by the police while others fled the scene.
Delta State Police commissioner, Mr Adeyinka Adeleke, while confirming the incident, said his men who had gone to the area to return normalcy were attacked by suspected cultists.According to him, one of the suspected cultists was killed by the superior fire power of his men.
